Dr. Athanasios Desalermos
Dr. Athanasios Desalermos is a board-certified gastroenterologist. He graduated with high honors from the University of Athens School of Medicine and he continued his post-doctoral training at Harvard University Medical School. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Boston Medical Center and continued with a fellowship at University of California, San Diego School of Medicine where he trained next to Dr. William Sandborn the world’s top expert in the management of ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. He has conducted extensive research in gastroenterology and inflammatory bowel disase supported by research grants from the National Institutes of Health and his research has resulted in more than 15 peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters. He is an assistant professor of medicine at University of Massachusetts School of Medicine and is active in teaching resident physicians and medical students. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), the American Gastrointestinal Association (AGA) and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. He is originally from Greece and enjoys the warm hospitality of New England where he lives with his wife and four daughters.
