S.I.B.O.
Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) is a condition in which your small bowel has a higher number of microbes that are normally present inside your gut. Multiple disorders can predispose or be responsible for this abnormality, including anatomic changes inside your bowel from a previous surgery, medication use, or slow motility of your bowel for example due to diabetes. Symptoms from SIBO are often gas, bloating, abdominal discomfort, or diarrhea. More severe symptoms like oily, bulky stool and weight loss could also be present. A simple, non invasive breath test is available to diagnose the disease and several antibiotics could treat the condition. Similarly, important to identify the underlying predisposing factor and treat when possible to prevent from happening again. For that an upper endoscopy or a colonoscopy could be performed as needed.
